Dear Rancho Staff and Families, On behalf of the Rancho Elementary School faculty and staff, I welcome you to another exciting school year!

My name is Catherine Nam and I am honored to be returning to the staff of Rancho Elementary School as your new principal.  As a former teacher and Rancho parent, I feel like I am coming home. My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has been shaped over the last 24 years as a classroom teacher; curriculum designer; instructional coach; staff trainer in the areas of math, science, and technology; and most recently as the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning for Novato Unified School District. It is the culmination of my work to take the helm of Rancho and support our wonderful school throughout the years ahead.

My top priority at Rancho is making sure that our children are healthy, happy, and safe.  I want each and every student to know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.  When there is a feeling of inclusion and community and students feel like they belong, they are then able to take risks and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I hold a strong belief that a healthy body and healthy mind go hand in hand, so when I am not with our students, you will find me running and hiking the hills of Novato, riding the back roads of West Marin, swimming, skiing, and practicing yoga. I spend much of this time contemplating how to develop great educators and schools.

I am committed to fostering school environments that address the intellectual needs of each student. It is vital that we meet each student where they are at and provide personalized learning opportunities so that each child can grow and reach their potential.  Each and every child’s journey at Rancho matters to me.

Not only am I eager to begin working with our children, but I also look forward to the work we adults will do together.  I want to continue Rancho’s tradition of excellence and create an environment based on trust, communication, and collaboration.  This starts with making connections and forming relationships to deeply understand the diverse and multiple perspectives everyone brings to the table.

I know firsthand that Rancho’s dedicated staff and strong parent community are truly special and I am excited to work alongside you to continue fostering and growing the wonderful things happening at Rancho.  Enjoy your last few weeks of summer, and please come say “Hi” when you return to school, as I am looking forward to reconnecting and meeting with all of you.

Sincerely,

Catherine Nam
